More "gaps" in the island chain that don't really exist. We had a
long haul ahead of us today, we hoped to make about 55 miles to Black
Point.

We went "outside" into the Exuma Sound here at Conch Cay Cut.
It's Tuesday now.
2/3/2004 10:52:10 AM
|

More surf in the middle of the ocean. Means there's a big old
reef there.
2/3/2004 10:52:20 AM
|

Then about lunchtime we heard the fishing reel winding up...
2/9/2004 12:10:12 PM
|

We'd hooked a Bull Dolphin (also known as Mahi-Mahi)
2/9/2004 12:10:26 PM
|

Kristi fighting with the fish...
2/9/2004 12:10:34 PM
|

Jeff got it with the gaff and pulled it aboard.
2/3/2004 12:28:52 PM
|

It's a keeper!
2/9/2004 12:11:22 PM
|

Putting it out of it's misery....(Kristi bailed at this point :-)
2/9/2004 12:11:28 PM
|

He was stunningly neon green and blue and yellow in the water.....the
colors faded almost instantly.
2/3/2004 12:33:06 PM
|

Jeff filleting the fish.
2/3/2004 12:52:58 PM
|

I wanted to see how it was done, tho not badly enough to do it myself.
2/9/2004 12:12:38 PM
|

It was almost 4 feet long.....one heck of a nice fish.
2/3/2004 1:11:12 PM
|

Approaching Farmers Cay Cut.....where the heck did a funnel cloud come
from???
2/3/2004 3:59:42 PM
|

It was scary looking...and it started to rain about then.
2/9/2004 12:13:46 PM
|

Even scarier was the fact that we couldn't see into the water now.
2/3/2004 4:03:54 PM
|

We knew there were some rocks and reefs....I was up on the bow seat as
a lookout praying I would recognize something bad before we hit it.
2/3/2004 4:04:00 PM
|

A rainbow......we were out of the woods at this point. We used
Explorer charts and they were right on as they had been all along.
2/3/2004 5:00:58 PM
|

Sailing away from the storm
2/3/2004 5:05:34 PM
|

It was an impressive buildup.
2/3/2004 5:07:10 PM
|

Approaching Jacks Cove, where we decided to anchor if we could get in.
2/3/2004 5:13:46 PM
|

Rock walls on either side.
2/3/2004 5:17:50 PM
|

Duelling cameras! :-)
2/3/2004 5:19:12 PM
|

We kayaked in to the beach, wanted to climb the hill, but forgot 2
vital things.....shoes and bug spray!
2/3/2004 5:45:46 PM
|

I took about 40 pics of this sunset. It was just stunning.
2/3/2004 5:46:02 PM
|

2/3/2004 5:46:16 PM
|

2/3/2004 5:46:56 PM
|

2/3/2004 5:47:06 PM
|

Kristi on the beach.
2/3/2004 5:47:32 PM
|

This was the coolest place we anchored the whole trip.
2/3/2004 5:47:36 PM
|

I'd love to spend a few days here.
2/3/2004 5:48:00 PM
|

Jeff knew when the tide went out we'd ground....we were only in 5 feet
at close to high tide.
2/3/2004 5:48:26 PM
|

He was on the boat cooking Mahi-Mahi while we were playing.
2/3/2004 5:49:18 PM
|

This could be a postcard. (If I do say so myself :-)
2/3/2004 5:49:26 PM
|

Yes, I know you're sick of it by now.
2/3/2004 5:50:16 PM
|

I wasn't.
2/3/2004 5:50:22 PM
|

And probably never would be. As soon as the sun set tho, we had
to flee back to the boat. We were being eaten alive.
2/7/2004 1:44:06 PM
|

I reluctantly gave up taking pics for a few minutes so Kristi could
take one of me. This is one of the nicer pics of me I've
ever seen.
2/3/2004 5:52:24 PM
|

Kristi icing down her arm...she bruised it badly when she almost fell
out of the kayak at the boat.
2/3/2004 6:44:42 PM
|

This place was deserted and just very primordial. We did end up
sitting on the bottom...about a foot of the boat out o the water.
It's very cool that you can get away with that.
